March is here already, which means so is St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. This upcoming holiday is famous for many things, including drinking and partying. We want to make sure everyone stays safe over St. Patrick’s Day Weekend this year. Which is why we thought it is important to give out some tips to make sure your night is fun and safe. There are three main parts to saying safe on a busy holiday weekend: having a plan, securing a ride, and drinking responsibly.
Have a plan. It is very important on holidays like this one that you have a plan. Whether you are bar hoping, going to a downtown block party, or having a family gathering at your house, it is important to think ahead. If you are hosting a party, make sure you are keeping track of who is leaving and how they are getting home. Try your best to keep your friends and family safe by not letting them drink and drive or get in the car with someone who has been drinking.
Secure a ride. Have a transportation plan. Either designate a driver who will not be drinking, or schedule a ride from a taxi or other car service. Getting to and from your event on a weekend like this can be very dangerous and drinking and driving is often common. If you are the designated driver, please drive carefully, watch for pedestrians, and park your car in a safe spot close so you will be able to see it frequently. It is also important to know that sometimes companies like Uber, Lyft, and AAA offer free rides home for holidays like this. If this is the case on this weekend, take advantage of it!
Drink responsibly. Because St. Patrick’s Day is such an alcohol driven holiday it is very important that you remember to drink responsibly. Balance your alcohol intake with food and water so you do not get dehydrated or sick. As always, watch your drinks. With such a busy holiday it is very easy for you to get distracted and lose your drink. Always keep an eye on your drink and anyone who is near you, as well as who is making your drink. Watch your alcohol intake and try to remain in a place of control. Keep an eye on your friends too, make sure they are drinking enough water and are close to your surroundings. Make sure you stay in the area of your event. Do not wander off in the middle of the street or get into someone else’s car. Stay with your group.
St. Patrick’s Day Weekend is supposed to be a fun, stress free holiday. We hope these tips help you accomplish the goal of having fun and staying safe during this busy weekend.
