Public Transportation Accidents
Public transportation is used to help lower congestion of traffic on the roads, can help people travel faster and can be more convenient than traveling long distances in cars. Public transportation is used each and every day all around the world. Unlike smaller vehicles, when these forms of transportation are involved in accidents it could mean dozens or even hundreds of injured passengers.
Public transportation vehicles are usually holding groups of passengers and just as cars and trucks incur damage through accidents so can trains, buses and any other form of public transportation. However, when public transportation is involved in the accident the damage caused and the amount of injured people are much more severe than with cars or trucks.
What happens when involved in a public transportation accident? First pay attention, if able, to any announcements made. Most public transportation vehicles have systems they can announce directions through. The driver or an appointed personnel will be giving directions on what to do and where to go. Look for an exit sign or door, once found passengers should begin to exit through calmly and safely. If unable to find the marked exit location or if it is blocked and is unable to pass through safely, look for any safe exit and exit through cautiously.
Once out safely contact emergencies right away. Medical assistance is of the most importance when involved in an accident. Often injuries from an accident may not appear right away and there could be internal injuries or injuries that come forth days after the accident has occurred. Injuries like these can be brain trauma or even back and spine injuries. Not only is it important for your livelihood, but it is also important to have any injuries well documented when making a claim.
If physically able take notes on everything you remember about the accident. Even take pictures if possible. Also, take down names and numbers of whoever was involved in the accident. Such as the driver of the vehicle, any other passengers on the same vehicle as you, or other drivers and passengers of other vehicles involved. Another important number and name to take down is the officer at the scene.
Going through an accident can be traumatizing enough. Hiring a well-versed attorney on your side to help you get through this difficult time is the best option. This will ensure that you get the compensation owed to you and your loved ones.
