Motorcycle accidents
Even though California has many laws to help protect motorcyclists, thousands of people die every year due to motorcycle accidents. While other types of vehicle accidents are decreasing over the years, motorcycle accidents seem to be increasing. Motorcycle deaths have become an increased portion of all deaths and are twenty-six times more deadly than cars. Even with less than one percent of miles driven, motorcyclists have made up to fifteen percent of traffic deaths in previous years.
California has the largest volume of motorcycles in the nation with more than eight hundred thousand registered motorcycles. There’s an attraction in California for having the best roads to have motorcycle rides. With having beautiful views and the most amazing weather, California is one of the top states for motorcycles.
Almost half of the deadly accidents only involve the motorcycle, called single-vehicle accidents. One of the main reasons for these single accidents is the motorcyclist losing control of the motorcycle during a turn. Also, reckless driving and speeding have been the main factors in these types of accidents. Other factors causing single-vehicle crashes could be road hazards such as debris or uneven roads, causing the motorcyclist to lose control.
Another reason for single motorcycle accidents can occur from being cut off by another vehicle causing the motorcycle off the road or the motorcyclist laying the bike down. There could have been a squirrel or pedestrian the motorcyclist was trying to avoid. Also, the motorcycle itself could have had mechanical failures causing an accident.
The other half of fatal motorcycle accidents do involve another or multiple other vehicles. Most of these types of accidents are head-on collisions. Mainly, the vehicle crossing a lane to pass another did not see the motorcyclist in that lane. Other incidents causing accidents are vehicles making left turns while pulling in front of motorcycles that are going straight and lane changing when failing to see the motorcyclist in their blind spot. This is particularly due to motorcyclists having smaller profiles.
With so many motorcycles on the road California is fated to have more accidents than any other state. If you or a loved one have been involved in a motorcycle accident, or the family of a victim who died in a motorcycle accident, contacting an attorney is a must. Let an accident attorney fight for compensation to replace income lost, medical bills, and anything to help ease the pain and suffering of the victim.
